Civic orientation for refugees & migrants · UK & Europe

Integration, done properly.

Every European government now agrees that new arrivals must understand the values, laws and everyday norms of life here — and that a leaflet was never the way. Settle is the multilingual course, the live workshops in people’s own language, and the research that makes it work. This is what the solution actually looks like.

The whole country is asking the same question: how do we help new arrivals understand life here — and change what they do, not just what they’re told?

A printed booklet can state the law. It cannot teach it, in a language someone reads, in a way that lasts. We built the answer — and the evidence to prove it works.

What we deliver

Everything a new arrival needs to belong.

The course, the workshops and the research work as one system — each making the others stronger, all built on the same peer-reviewed evidence.

The multilingual course

An app that teaches new arrivals how life works here — the law, etiquette, rights and responsibilities — in their own language, with audio, on any phone. No download; reached by a link or QR code.

Launch the course →

Live workshops

Delivered in the community’s own languages — interactive activities, presentations, speeches and take-home literature on UK etiquette, behaviour and law. Plus trauma-informed training for the staff around them.

The research

Between Worlds — our evidence-first writing on displacement, trauma and belonging. It’s why commissioners trust us: we understand the problem before we sell the solution.

One-to-one support

Beyond the classroom — walking alongside people.

The course and workshops reach people at scale. This is the human layer that catches the individual — for those who need more than a lesson.

Mentoring

We pair each new arrival with a trained mentor who walks alongside them — navigating systems, building confidence, and opening doors to work, learning and community.

Counselling & wellbeing

Trauma-informed one-to-one support from qualified practitioners — a safe space to process what’s been carried, with clear routes on to specialist care where it’s needed.

Advice & guidance

Plain-language help with the practical, legal, social and integration questions of life here — housing, health, work, school, rights and belonging — with trusted signposting to specialist services whenever something needs an expert.

The workshops

In their language. In the room. Impossible to ignore.

Not a lecture and not a leaflet — sessions people take part in, delivered natively, on the subjects that matter most.

01

Public etiquette & the unwritten rules

How life works here — space, calm, fairness, honesty, respect.

02

Respect, consent & the law

UK law made plain, framed as protection — for everyone.

03

Women’s safety & rights

Rights, protections and where to get help, in confidence.

04

Protecting children

The law that protects children, and every adult’s duty within it.

05

Money, work & avoiding scams

The right to work, protecting your account, spotting fraud.

06

Trauma-informed training for staff

For the council, housing and frontline teams who meet new arrivals.

The cost of doing nothing

Left unaddressed, trauma doesn’t fade. It compounds — for them, and for the community.

This is the case for intervention, in three numbers. The injuries are real; the costs are preventable. Which path a community takes is a choice — and doing nothing is the expensive, higher-risk one.

~1 in 3
refugees and asylum seekers live with PTSD or depression — roughly ten times general-population rates. Left unaddressed, it doesn’t stay still.
Blackmore et al., PLOS Medicine, 2020
Preventable
Conflict trauma can raise the risk of violence — and that risk largely dissolves once people can work, understand the rules, and integrate.
Couttenier et al., American Economic Review, 2019
71%
recovered from PTSD after a short course of structured support — and stayed recovered a year on. Intervention works.
Neuner et al., J. Consulting & Clinical Psychology, 2004

Untreated — and left without language, work or an understanding of how life here works — these injuries deepen, and the costs move outward: crisis admissions, tenancy breakdown, pressure on services, community tension, and the rise in offending the evidence records among the conflict-exposed. Address it early, in people’s own language, and that trajectory reverses. The gap between acting and waiting is exactly what Settle closes — which is why early intervention isn’t optional, it’s essential. Read the full research →

When the War Doesn’t End

PTSD, displacement, and why “just settle in” is the wrong thing to ask — and the right thing to build. A fully-sourced look at what war does to the mind, what the crime evidence really shows, and why the injuries are treatable.

European experience

Seven cities. Years on the ground.

Between 2015 and 2020, our founder and delivery team gained hands-on experience delivering workshop-based integration education across seven European cities. That experience — grounded in the realities of integration, not just the theory — informs everything Settle builds today.

Proven where it matters

We measure everything — so you see results, not slogans.

Government doesn’t need promises; it needs outcomes. Every Settle deployment is measured from day one, and we’re now opening a small number of founding pilots with councils and centres across the UK and Europe.

Reach & completion

Who enrolled, in which languages, and how many finished — per site, in real time.

Understanding

Before-and-after checks on the law, rights and norms — proof the content actually landed.

Outcomes that matter

Tracked with partners: staff confidence, incidents, tenancy sustainment and cohesion.

Founding pilots — open now
